African American Literature Malcolm X
What do you think of Malcolm X? What can we learn from him?
In this blog, you can post any questions you might have to me. In particular, if you are a student, this blog should be useful for you because you can ask me any questions about assignments, lectures, exams, quizzes, or material covered in class.

Well I think that he's being nieve about the situation. If whites dont approve of blacks getting ahead then why are they going to give their hard earned money. I think that he needs to look over his plan before he take action.;

Interesting comment. I would like to know more about what you mean. You feel that he's being naive, but I don't think he was asking whites for handouts. He felt that black people should build their own culture and strive to be independent from whites. Of course, the problem there is that we live in an interdependent world. While it may be true that African Americans needed to become more independent, all of America wouldn't be where it is today without the help of African Americans. Maybe you are right--if I understand you--maybe he was asking for too much too fast. However, not many people thought Obama would become president, but he did, and now he's got nearly 90% support among Americans from all backgrounds. Sometimes change happens fast. It is too bad Malcolm X didn't live to see this day.
I agree that blacks should be independent from whites because we are a very strong group of people that can stand on our on two. I believe any group of people that stand together will become powerful, for example I believe in some years China may become very powerful.
I just have to say that im reading the information but i dont think im grasping all that i think i need and should know about each poem and topic that we are discussing in class. I feel like there is more that i need to know and understand. Is there anything that you or i can do to give me a better understanding.
Dear Anonymous, please place your name at the end of each post so I can give you credit for your posts. As for the point about Malcolm X, I agree. If African Americans unify more, they will get more accomplished. I think we as Americans need to unify more. I even would go so far that the problem with Malcolm X's philosophy is that it no longer applies to the world today. His views are outdated because we live in a global economy where we all depend on each other. On the other hand, I think Malcolm X was a necessary step in the long struggle for Civil Rights. He is right that people of color who are attacked need to defend themselves by any means necessary, but now times are different, and we all need to come together as one. It is interesting how Malcolm X paved the way for Barack Obama and others. If Malcolm X hadn't struggled for civil rights, maybe Obama wouldn't be president today.
By the way, you don't have to agree with me! This blog is meant for a conversation.
Another point: I can't answer your question about understanding the material. I did place a series of instructions on my website (see course updates). Most people didn't use the MLA format, so everyone is going to have to revise the work turned in.
I think Malcolm X was a great man who encouraged change, humanity and the uplifting of African American people. Just as the statements that were being read in the end of the Malcolm X movie done by spike lee. The media can depict anything that they would like of his character but after doing research on Malcolm X since age of 14. I have realized he at no time during his movement ever organized and violent attack on any not black purpose how ever like he stated in his autobiography at a time in the 1960’s in which Caucasians were unwilling to look at the injustice done to people on each continent Malcolm X discovered his purpose was “to show the white man him self.“ I believe that Malcolm X was a great man who managed to rebuild him self into the highest character possible. Malcolm was self educated, spiritual and Man enough to reinvent him after he was approached with the truth of how hate regardless of what religion you are afflicted with is not of God upon his pilgrimage to Mecca. I hope for a leader who will be well respected enough to push African Americans into the unity that he was able to obtain while in the Nation of Islam and while creating is own group for human right Afro-American Unity (OAAU) and admitting that he mad made a mistake in spreading hatred. I believe that we can learn that regardless of your past with diligence of working toward your goal, education and faith that anything is possible. Malcolm x will always be one of the most respected leader of African Americans because he was a true leader of himself, his family and his brother and sisters of African descent.

This Latahsa Williams.I do believe that Malcolm X would love to see this day in which we have a first African American president. I also feel that it would be disheartningto see the number of unemployed African americans and hear the type of music that we promote in hip and R& B whihc are considered african American Genre. Basically the entire way African Americans carry themselves.I feel that some peole have taken the victory of Obama as a reason to advise blacks not becoming educated, ecomoniccally empowered to and other standard Obama and reducing the health cris among african Americans. America having it's first Bi-racial president is a great thing but we should not overlook the problems that African Americans are still suffing from
