Hi my name is Karen Capps
The first problem I have when writing is trying to get my thoughts down on paper. Once I have my thoughts down I can began writing but sometimes I repeat myself when there is a required amount of words. My spelling is not the best either, so I use the dictionary for all my papers. I also end up connecting paragraphs that should be two different paragraphs. My grammar and revising needs some improving.
I would like to have a better understanding of how to put my thoughts on paper by the end of the semester.
Those sound like excellent objectives. We will work on some brainstorming techniques in the next class. As for spelling,I think the best way to improve your spelling is through reading. We will also work on grammar and revising throughout the semester. I will try to give specific instructions about how to revise effectively.
My first problem in writing is that if the topic I have to write on is difficult or if I dont have enough knowledge, it gets me angry an then I wont write it. but thats something i have to work on.

. Everyone should take a quote from Havel and write about it in this blog. I see that everyone has trouble writing about topics and needs work on brainstorming activities. We will cover some of these activities in class next time. We will also review some of your grammatical errors. As for the topic of global warming, you have a lot of information at your fingertips on the web. I will show you how to document sources. You also can do independent thinking. A lot of the problems related to global warming can be resolved with common sense by reducing the way we pollute.

" We can't endlessly fool ourselves that nothing is wrong and that we can go on cheerfully pursiring our wasteful lifestyles, ignoring the climate threats and postponing a solution." Havel
I think we need to pay more attention to what is going on around us, and stop trying to convince ourselves that everything is alright. We need to take responsibility for the way we live, and stop being so wasteful.
Excellent point, Karen. We need to stop being wasteful, and we need to start to take action, but do you have any suggestions how we can get interested in solving these problems? I try to do my part by driving fuel efficient vehicles, recycling, and mowing the lawn with a lawnmower that doesn't pollute. I know that I could start walking to school instead of driving. How do we get average people interested in changing our attitude towards the environment? I am asking everyone in this class this question. I don't think most people are interested or even care. Has reading Havel's essay changed anyone's opinion?

"By waiting for incontrovertible precision, aren't we simply wasting time when we could be taking measures that are relatively painless compared to those we would have to adopt after further days?" Havel
We need to start taking care of the problem now, and stop waisting time just talking about it before the problem gets worst, and we can't do anything.
Dear Karen:
Thanks for your additional Havel quote. I think that is an excellent quote that emphasizes the urgency of the environmental crisis. After teaching this subject for a while, I've learned that many students are not informed about this subject. It seems like a lot of students are more concerned about material things than about the consequences of our mistreatment of the environment. I hope this project can educate people about this issue. I am looking forward to your presentation.
