In addition to being a writer and professor, I am a practitioner of the ancient Chinese martial art, taijiquan. Taijiquan combines softness with hardness and relieves stress. It is an effective form of combat; most of the postures in taijiquan involve joint locking and grappling as well as short range combat techniques.
